Why Series Group Classes?A series group class is one of the best ways to learn a new dance. Classes are progressive and meet once a week. In a group class setting we begin with a dance pattern and build on it from week to week. Each week we review material covered in the previous session(s) and add to what’s been previously learned. Like building a pyramid, we start at the bottom, build it higher and higher while maintaining the solid foundation. Our classes are challenging but fun!
The great advantage of taking our series group classes, as compared to drop-in classes, is that we will make sure that the dance patterns, figures, techniques and styling are taught to YOUR level. We have many fun figures, techniques and styling tips to share with you and we will provide you with the necessary skills to enable you to master new dance patterns and figures. So, no more wasting time struggling to learn, or being frustrated and/or intimidated by new steps!
Note: Session times and dates for all classes vary.

Samba - Instructor Chris PadgettAs a ballroom dance, the samba is a partner dance. Ballroom samba, like other ballroom dances, is very
disconnected from the origins and evolution of the music and dance that gives it its name. It is a form created for its suitability as a partner dance. The dance movements, which do not change depending on the style of samba music being played, borrows some movements from Afro-Brazilian traditional dances such those used in candomblé rituals and the chamadas of capoeira angola. The ballroom Samba is danced to music in 2/4 or 4/4 time. The basic movements are counted either 1-2 or 1-a-2, and are danced with a slight downward bouncing or dropping action. This action is created through the bending and straightening of the knees. Swing - Instructor Rita PicklesimerBasic Swing or East Coast Swing, is the basic form of Swing dance danced to Swinging Jazz music. Beginning classes focus on six-count triple-swing, basic figures and technique. No social dance experience is required—if you can walk and you can count to eight, you have what it takes to learn basic swing. This six hour course is a great class for singles! No partner needed to learn these most basic skills of Swing dancing. This class is open to singles and couples who want to add Swing to their dance card.

Cha Cha Cha - Instructor Chris PadgettFirst seen in the dance-halls of America in the early 1950’s, Cha Cha is the newcomer of the Latin American dances. Danced slower than the salsa the cha is cheeky and flirtatous. This dance has wide application because cha cha music is popular in all music genres, including country, funk, and hip-hop. Popular mainstream artists such as Santana, Marc Anthony, and Jennifer Lopez are putting out great cha cha music. This is a party dance! Whereas the Rumba might have an intense expression, the interpretation of Cha Cha music typically produces a happy, carefree, party-time-like dance expression.
Waltz - Instructor Rita PicklesimerDating back about 300 years and popular all over the world, the waltz is the "backbone" dance of the ballroom. With its easy-to-hear 1-2-3, 1-2-3 rhythm pattern and simple box step foundation pattern, it's also easy to learn. Waltz is a smooth progressive dance characterized by long, flowing movements, continuous turns, and rise & fall. Graceful and elegant, Waltz dancers glide around the floor almost effortlessly. The American style is punctuated with lavish open movements, underarm turns, and solo spins.
